News: STV’s Paul Hughes joins #PRFest

Paul Hughes, STV’s Channel Editor, joins #PRFest line-up and he’s got exciting news!

Local broadcasting can help PR engage local audiences – STV’s Channel Editor, Paul Hughes joins the #PRFest line-up – Scotland’s about to get a second commercial channel in STV2.

Paul will be talking about the arrival of a second Scottish commercial network, learnings from the experience of starting a television station from a blank piece of paper and the opportunities the TV station presents to the PR industry in Scotland.

Paul Hughes is currently the Channel Editor of STV2, having taken the project from a single Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) start-up license, STV Glasgow, to a new Scotland-wide, five-channel network launching early in 2017.

Paul was formerly the Managing Editor of ITV Westminster (ITV’s political unit) and led the Digital Switchover project for Scotland – the broadcast industry’s biggest ever public communications programme. He has 20 years’ experience in broadcasting with BBC, ITV, ITN, STV, FIVE and GMTV.  He also has a background as a media consultant with clients including Edelman and Chevron.

This session presents a great opportunity for PR practitioners to learn about the developments in local broadcasting as well as the opportunities to get involved.

STV News Tonight is a new service for an expanded network of city channels rebranded STV2. Last September STV announced the rebrand and the launch of an integrated Scottish and international news show. Read more here.

Paul is married to newsreader Rachel McTavish and spends his spare time reprimanding their twin sons, playing in bands and tending to his collection of over 40 musical instruments, most of which he admits to playing badly. Paul is @PaulHughes01 on Twitter.
